On February 5-6, 2025, in Athens, Greece, Tecnalia and 11 partner organizations convened for the official kick-off meeting of AgRimate, a five-year, €4.9 million research and innovation project funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe program. The meeting marked the start of their collaborative effort to develop and deploy AI-driven solutions for the transformation of agricultural practices.
AgRimate tackles modern agricultural challenges by integrating AI, AR, robotics, and sensors. This project focuses on human knowledge, going beyond robotics by observing how pruners interact with the environment. It extracts and understands their actions to create an AI capable of performing tasks like pruning. By analyzing the effects of human pruning in the field, the AI embeds expert knowledge.
This AI will train new pruners and assist experts by recommending optimal pruning strategies, ultimately knowing what to prune to optimize crop yields. The project's core objective is a data-driven platform empowering farmers to optimize production, improve resource efficiency, and enhance sustainability.
